Abacus Mountaineering started providing mountain adventures in November 2000. IFMGA Mountain Guide Mike Pescod started the business with MIC Mountaineering Instructor Donald King after working together for two years at Outward Bound Scotland.

Our range of courses is always expanding and we specialise in providing exactly what you want. Creating the perfect day for you based on the prevailing weather and conditions, your previous experience and aspirations, is our challenge and what gives us the most satisfaction.

Don't expect anything off the shelf, we only do designer courses!

IFMGA Mountain Guides have the highest worldwide qualification for instruction and guiding in rock and ice climbing, mountaineering and ski touring.

UK Canyon Guides is the only recognized organization in the UK offering training and certification programs for canyoneering guides.

Mountain Bike Leader Award scheme is delivered by British Cycling and is recognised as a model of best practise throughout the UK.

During busy periods of the year we call on a small team of selected instructors who share the same passion for the hills as Mike and Donald. Your instructor might hold the MIA, MIC or IFMGA Guide qualifications, TCL or MBL Mountain Bike qualifications or UK Canyon Guide qualification. We only provide qualified and experienced instructors and guides but please feel free to ask about what qualifications your instructor holds.
